The International Menopause Society‘s World Congress represents a pinnacle gathering for menopause specialists globally.  Held in Melbourne this October, this prestigious event brought together leading researchers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals to share the latest advances in menopause care and women’s midlife health.

This year, a multidisciplinary team of experts from Emsee attended, including our Chief Medical Officer Dr Simran Chadha, Dr Dalia Ubied, Naturopath Chantelle Bell, Dr Mark Mikhail and Dr Kemi Adu. Our attending team brings extensive experience in menopause care, with clinical expertise spanning 8 to 31 years in healthcare. While all our practitioners specialize in supporting women through their menopause journey, they also bring valuable complementary skills across general practice, mental health, sexual health, and integrative medicine.

Key Congress Highlights

This year’s congress achieved record-breaking attendance with over 2,500 healthcare professionals, including ~1,500 Australian practitioners – the largest gathering in the event’s history. The unprecedented attendance numbers signal a significant shift in healthcare’s recognition of menopause care. This growing professional interest reflects the increasing awareness of menopause’s impact on women’s health and the importance of specialised care during this life stage.

The congress featured leading researchers presenting their latest findings across multiple aspects of menopause care. Our team was very encouraged to see that much of the latest research and discussions in the industry match our Emsee’s own experiences and approaches.

Early Intervention and Prevention

Through sessions including Dr John Stevenson’s presentation on “MHT for Primary Prevention” and presentations on “Bone Loss and Osteoporosis” chaired by Dr Carolyn Allan, growing research continues to demonstrate the preventive benefits of appropriately prescribed Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT), particularly when initiated early. These sessions highlighted its role in preventing bone loss, reducing cardiovascular disease risk, and supporting primary prevention of age-related health concerns.

Advances in Hormone Therapy Safety

Key presentations by Professor Alfred Mueck on “Progestogens and Their Effects on Other Steroid Receptors” and Professor Antonio Cano on “Progestogens: Which One, When, How Much, How Long?” reinforced the safety profile of micronised progesterone compared to other progestogens – an approach Emsee has been a leader in championing. This validation from international experts confirms our commitment to offering safe, beneficial hormone therapy options for our patients.

Team bonding and next year’s congress

The congress provided our telehealth team of practitioners from across Australia with a valuable opportunity to come together in a shared learning environment. The event created meaningful spaces for our clinicians to connect, exchange professional insights, and share diverse clinical perspectives. Beyond the formal sessions, shared meals and conversations allowed our team members to strengthen their collaborative relationships while engaging in rich discussions about patient care and healthcare innovation. This collective experience enhanced both our professional knowledge and team dynamics, making it a truly worthwhile gathering for our distributed healthcare community.

The enthusiasm generated from this collaborative experience has sparked strong excitement about the 20th World Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil here we come!
