Dr. Shamendri Dassanayake
Doctor
Dr. Shamendri Dassanayake has been practicing medicine for 12 years and holds a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). Drawn to medicine by the opportunity to build long-term, meaningful relationships with patients, she developed a particular passion for women's health and menopause care after recognising how often women feel unheard during this significant life transition.
Her approach is individualised, evidence-based, and holistic. She works collaboratively with patients to develop tailored plans that may include lifestyle strategies, hormonal or non-hormonal treatments, and ongoing review. She has a particular interest in body-identical hormone therapy and helping patients understand the difference between regulated, evidence-based options and compounded formulations. Beyond menopause, her broader scope includes preventive health, chronic disease management, mental health care, contraception, menstrual concerns, and perimenopause.
She values collaboration within a dedicated menopause-focused team and prioritises attentive listening, shared decision-making, and structured follow-up. Outside of medicine, she enjoys baking, exercising, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family.
